Giovanni Levanti was born in Palermo, Sicily, in 1956. After graduating with a degree in Architecture, he moved to Milan and, in 1991, he opened his own studio.
He collaborates with Campeggi, Cassina, Diamantini&Domeniconi, Domodinamica, Edra, Foscarini, In the Room, Marutomi ,Memphis, Nagano, Pallucco Italia, Salviati, Serafino Zani, Twergi-Alessi. His objects and designs are selected for prestigious international exhibitions including: Dodici Nuovi Memphis (Milan, 1986), Capitales Europennes du Noveau Design (Paris, 1991), La Fabbrica Estetica (Paris, 1993), Il Design Italiano 1964-1990 (Milan, 1996), 1945-2000 – Il Design in Italia – 100 oggetti (Seoul, 2001, touring exhibition), Italy and Japan – Design come stile di vita (Yokohama, Kobe, 2001), Il Modo Italiano (Montreal, 2007, Toronto, Rovereto), 1978-2008 Made in Italy, Brazilian Design Biennal (Brasilia, 2008), Quali cose siamo (Milan, 2010), Abitare l'utopia (Verona, 2010), Ospiti inaspettati (Milan, 2010).
His objects can be found in the permanent Italian Design collection in the Triennale di Milano, in the Design Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal, and in the Design Collection of the National Museum of Modern Arts of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
His awards include: the Design Plus Prize 2000 in Frankfurt, selection to the XIX ADI Compasso d’Oro Award (Milan, 2001), the XXII Premios de Disegno cDIM Professionales (Valencia, 2004) and the Palermo Design Week Prize (Palermo, 2007).
In 2010 Beppe Finessi oversaw his solo exhibition in the Care-of and Via Farini galleries, within the Fabbrica del Vapore (The Steam Factory) in Milan.
He currently lives and works in Milan.
